April’s Meetings & Show And Tell!
Home sweet home! From were you ask? Well Paducah Kentucky of course! I was lucky enough to spend last week with four of my friends enjoying the AQS Quilt show, however we could have used without all the rain! For the first time in the 27 years of the AQS Paducah Show was moved from the Convention Center as the flood walls were closed to hold back the rising water. We had to deal with a few rather scary storms during our stay but we were quite safe and sound at the Kentucky Lake house we rented. For all of the others that attended the show i do hope you enjoyed yourselves and were able to find all the quilts and venders that were scattered around town! OK, i know this is not the reason you are here so lets get on to the meeting stuff shall we…
On April 18th, the members of the Crossroads Quilters Guild meet at 12:00 for the monthly quilt show meeting. As we were missing a number of show helpers we were a bit limited to what we could talk about. We went over the show flyers and made a few changes. I now have them ready to print so we can start sending them out to quilt shops, guilds, and to our vendors to help advertise the show. We also worked on cutting the tags for the fat quarter gifts for the show in preparation for wrapping the fat’s later in the afternoon. We took a quick look at bags to purchase for the show as well but decided we needed to bring this decision to the monthly guild meeting for more discussion. At 4:00 we meet at The First Christian Church to cut, fold, and wrap 248 fat quarters! Thanks to Sharon D. for donating the fabric for the show. We will have more fabric to prepare in another month or two.
When the nightly meeting rolled around at 6:00 we voted on purchasing a pink color bag with handles to use as gift bags for the quilt show this September. This will be the first year we will be trying out the bags which will contain the show book, viewers choice ballet, fat quarter gift, plastic glove, and any other items that need to be handed out when a attendee pays to view out September quilt show. We believe the bags can be prepared in advance and hopefully cut down on the time it takes to get people into the show. Rita N. reminded us that this years Bed Turning display will be about Sun Bonnet Sue & Overall Sam quilts. If you have a Sue or Sam quilt that you would be willing to let us use at this years show be sure to get in touch with Rita.
Sue W. reported that we will be allowed to set up a booth space at the Artisans Fair on April 29 & 30. The booth will be inside the old Court House, and is provided free of charge to our not for profit organization to inform the public what it is we do. Sue will have the raffle quilt on display at the Artisans Fair and have tickets available as well.
Sue also let us know that Lynn, from The Cotton Patch will be available for a Trunk Show. We decided to have Lynn come to our meeting on June 28th. Lynn will show us new items she found at Quilt market and will also have some items for sale.
Michelle B. give a run down of the information she gathered on getting t-shirts made for our guild. She showed us some samples of shirts available as well as the difference int he look of screen printing and embroidery. It was decided that we should check with a couple other printers before a decision was made on were the shirts will be made.
The guild decided to purchase 2 rolls of batting for project Linus as well as provide $100.00 to help ship the 200 quilts that were requested to be mailed to Texas. The quilts will be used by the family’s of military returning from Japan. The family’s will be put into a quarantine and the quilts will be given to both the returning children and adults. The family’s returning are not being allowed to bring any personal possessions with them and the quilts will hopefully give them something to hold during there stay in quarantine and when they are allowed to continue there lives back outside of quarantine.
Next Months program will be given by Beth K. The program will be on the Tossed Nine patch pattern. The pattern is quick and easy, makes a great donation quilt, and can be made into a large bed quilt in just a few hours. The first few steps of the pattern were handed out and guild members that wish to sew on the project at the next meeting were asked to bring in 3 completed Nine Patch blocks to help cut down on the time needed to complete the project. If you need any further info on the project for the May 16th meeting please contact Beth at: bkneesquilting @ gmail.com (remove the spaces!)

Oops! One more thing!
Do you have problems seeing the small lettering on this blog or any other website?
Well if you do try this:
First of all find the “CTRL” button on your keyboard. Most likely it will be the first button on the bottom row of the keyboard
Now find a “+” button. You can use the “+” button that is located on the number pad or the “+” button located two buttons down from the number “0″
Now find the ” – ” button, it should be to the left of the “+”
OK, to make everything on your screen larger hold down the CTRL button the hit the + button
Wallah!!! Every Thing On the screen gets bigger! The more you hit the “+’ the larger the screen will get!
If you want to make the screen smaller just hold down the CTRL button and then hit the ” – ” button!
You can make the screen go back to its original size by holding down the CTRL button and then hit the number “0″ button!
