February 2012

Hello Quilting Ladies
It’s that time again for another one of my newsletters.  If anyone ever gets tired of reading mine and would like to start doing them just let me know.  I would be delighted to read someone else’s news.  Don’t tackle me now when you see me wanting the job.  Hee Hee
Okay time to get serious and let you know what little I know.

Here are some dates to mark on your calendar.
Tuesday Feb. 14th not only is it Valentine’s Day but it’s also sewing day at The First Christian Church.  Be sure to pack your lunch and spend what ever time you can sewing for Project Linus.  They will be starting around 9:00 a.m.

Monday Feb. 20th at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran church is The Quilt Show meeting and a lot of plans are being made for our quilt show this year.  If you have any questions please contact Beth K. or Marilyn S. they will be able to answer them for you.
That same day at 6:30 p.m. is our regular quilt guild meeting at The First Christian Church.  Irene V. and I will be serving you refreshments.  Sue will be having our program for the evening on rotary cutting.  Please bring a mat, rotary cutter and ruler.  She will provide the fabric for everyone to use.
A couple more dates to remember: we are having a trunk show July 16th from Lori’s Pins & Needles.  She’s from Paris, IL.  Debra Henninger will be here June 18th showing and giving a presentation on Hobo Quilts.

Quilt show news: This year in the entry way it was decided we are going to do red and white quilts to display where we had Bargello’s last year.
The quilt should not be any bigger than 45X60.
They are also going to make red and white swags to hang in the doorways using a 6” squares folded into prairie points.
Beth passed out envelopes for the challenge instructions to who ever wanted to participate.  This item should not be any bigger than 40X60.  Be sure to see Beth if you want to join in on the challenge.
Sue showed the raffle quilt that has been made for our quilt show.  It is a 9 patch on point and it was beautiful.  She will be making the raffle tickets for us.  GREAT  JOB to everyone who had a part in making the quilt.

On February 17th Project Linus will be having a fundraiser dinner at the VFW.  Desserts are needed and we need to have them there by 2:00 p.m. or call Sharon Shields.  The time is from 5-7:00 p.m. that night and the cost is $6.00.

This year up until November I will be collecting any lap quilts, neck scarves for the Honor Flight program.  They need these for when they take their trip to Washington D.C.  It gets pretty cold and they need these items.

Ladies that’s about all I know.  I cancelled the retreat at our church due to the passing of Karen but I know they had one at Trinity Lutheran.  I didn’t make it so I haven’t heard how that one went but I’m sure they had a good time and I hope they got a lot of their unfinished projects finished.

See you at the next meeting if not before.  HAPPY SEWING

Project Linus Sew Day Feb.10, 2012

Hey all!

Just a quick email to let you all know that this Friday’s (February 10, 2012) Linus Sew Day at The First Christian Church has been Canceled. The church needs the kitchen area for a family dinner that will be taking place after a funeral.
The next Scheduled Project Linus Sew Day will be on March 9, 2012 at the First Christian Church from 9:00-2:00. I will be teaching a new pattern titled “Wonky Baby” you can find the pattern on the Moda Bake Shop Website if you want to have a look! If you want to try out the new pattern bring along 2 yards of a SOLID fabric (or nearly solid marble or blender print) to use as your background. You will also need 52, 4″ circles from various prints. I will help you with cutting circles during sew day if you do not have a circle cutter. It is also possible that a few circle fabrics will be available pre-cut at the sew day “IF” I have the time! Also, as always, bring along your basic Sewing supplies. Lunch on this day will be on your own, so be sure to bring a sack lunch or feel free to have lunch at one of our many local eating establishments!
Also, on February 17th, the Effingham VFW will be holding a fundraising dinner for Project Linus. The Pork Loin dinners will be available to eat at the VFW or the can be purchased to go if you want to take one home with you. Deserts of any kind are being asked for to go along with the dinner, if you would like to donate a desert you can bring one or more to the Effingham VFW on February 17, after 2:00pm or you can contact Sharon Shields (our local Linus Coordinator) about a drop off at her home. Also there will be a need of any extra hands to help serve the food, so feel free to stop by the Effingham VFW if you want to volunteer some of your time.
Most of the Linus Sew days this year will be taking place on Fridays at The First Christian Church. We are looking into trying to have a couple of Saturday Sew Days at the Beecher City Kluthe Building. More info on the Saturday Sew Days will be available once the arrangements  have been completed!
Thanks to all that have help to make our local Project Linus Group what it is today!
Hope to see you at a Linus Sew Day Soon!
