Guild Night June 20, 2011!
Posted by lizzyjo
Hello Quilters!
Well another guild meeting has come and gone, this one a bit faster than most to give our guest speaker plenty of time to show us her quilt market finds…. well that and give us more time to void our pockets of a little green stuff! I personaly had talked myself into NOT spending any money as i had plenty at home to keep me busy this summer. That lasted about 5 minutes into Lynn’s report on her Quilt market finds! When she showed us that little tiny 3″ Lymon Star i knew i wouldn’t be leaving the meeting without handing her a little of my hard earned cash! But more on that later!
At 5:00 a few of us meet at The First Christian Church for the monthly quilt show planing meeting. We talked a bit about fliers for the show as well as entry forms. i hope to have the forms ready to add to the blog in the next few day so you might want to be on the lookout for them! Some of our guild members have been hard at work selling add space in the quilt show booklet, at meeting time we have been paid for 8 adds plus we have a number of other businesses that have committed to a add but not yet paid for them. Keep on selling adds ladies we still have more room available! Sharon D. is once again in charge of advertising for our show and reported she had placed a order for a add in The Country Register again this year. The bags that we will be using to hold the multiple items given to each paying attendee to our quilt show have been ordered and will be picked up in the next couple of weeks. This will be a new addition to the show to help cut down on the time it takes to get people inside the exhibit hall. Next months quilt show meeting will be at 5:30 once again at the First Christian Church any and all guild members are welcome to attend. A number of us like to get together before the show meeting for dinner at Puerto Vallarta, all are welcome to join us at around 3:30 for a little salsa and a lot of laughs!
At our regularly scheduled guild meeting Sandy F. brought us our guild t-shirts. Karen R. will be checking with the Effingham Library about purchasing quilt related books in memory of two of our recently lost, but not forgotten members of the guild. The library will order the books adding a label saying who the books are in memory for. It was suggested that we might check into having a couple of wheelchairs available at the quilt show for those attending that might need a little extra help getting around. Marilyn will check with the convention center to see if they have any available and if not we will check into a local medical supply to see what the cost of renting them for a couple of days will be. We had a guest attending our meeting, Pam R. joined us for the night to see and hear what our guest speaker had to offer! Thanks for joining us Pam! Delicious refreshments were served to us by Helen M. & Bev E. Thanks ladies for the treats! Now a little show and tell!

The nights program was brought to us by Lynn M. owner operator of The Cotton Patch in Woodlawn, IL.. Lynn had recently gone to quilt market and brought along a number of new items to share with us. She showed us Frixion pens by Pilot (available at Staples) that disappear with the heat of a iron or hair dryer, Lots of great new pattern books, some amazing hand lotion from Lavishea that will keep your hands smooth but will not transfer to your fabrics, Lots of cool new rulers, including some from Deb Tucker that we wont be able to live without (see her free youtube videos on all her rulers here: YouTube) and some really cute little travel irons perfect for quilting! Lynn also shared with us some of the quilts she has made from the book Friendship Strips and Scraps from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. We all enjoyed Lynn Trunk Show and hope to see her return soon! Big THANKS Lynn!
